Academic Advising & GW 101

Colonial Inauguration (CI) kicks off the academic journey at GW and begins your learning experience.  During CI you will have an opportunity to meet with advisors and faculty and learn about the academic experience and expectations here.  In addition, you will have a chance to meet with a number of people who are here to help you make lasting connections with the GW academic community as you begin to chart your course as a Colonial.  

GW 101 - WHAT TO DO BEFORE REGISTERING FOR CLASSES IN JUNE

GW 101 is a tool to help you get acclimated with life at GW, including preparing you for class registration, providing information about student services and resources, and sharing more about campus life. Prior to registering for classes in June, you should complete Part 1 of GW 101 in Blackboard (this includes anyone who is attending a session on-campus in June AND those registering remotely/from home in June). Part 2 of GW 101 can be completed after you sign up for classes and prior to joining us in August. 

To access GW 101 - (available starting April 18th)

  1. Go to blackboard.gwu.edu
  2. Login using your netID (first part of student email - before the '@') and password
  3. Click on the Course List available - GW 101 for [academic school].  
  4. Prior to attending your CI session in June OR registering for classes in June, complete Part 1, so you can feel better prepared. You will complete Part 2 prior to joining us on-campus in August.

PLACEMENT EXAMS

Information regarding The ALEKS (Assessment and Learning in Knowledge Spaces) math placement: ALEKS is required for any students who intend to register for ECON 1011, MATH 1051, 1220, 1231, or 1252. 

 

A minimum score as indicated below must be obtained in order to remain in the respective course. 

  • ECON 1011: Minimum ALEKS test score of 46

  • MATH 1051: Minimum ALEKS test score of 61

  • MATH 1220: Minimum ALEKS test score of 61

  • MATH 1231: Minimum ALEKS test score of 76

  • MATH 1252: Minimum ALEKS test score of 61
