Letters of Recommendation

Letters of recommendation are important when applying for future jobs, internships, fellowships, research grants, graduate school, etc. Selecting people to write letters of recommendation can sometimes be the most difficult part of an application process.

Early in your college career, begin to think about faculty or professional staff members that you have worked with in classes or extracurricular activities that have seen your potential for success and achievement. Make appointments with these faculty members to discuss your work with them and talk about what you are applying for and why you’re interested in that opportunity. Be sure to give a recommender adequate time to write your letter of recommendation as well as all the appropriate information needed for the letter.
